At Rady, Your Safety is Paramount

October 7, 2020

Dear Rady JCC Friends,

Last week we informed you of a COVID-19 positive member who was at our facility a number of times while they may have been infectious. From day one, we have always stressed the importance of being transparent with our communication when it comes to anything regarding the ongoing pandemic. You can read our communication about last week’s incident here.

As you also know, since our reopening on June 15, we have measures in place throughout the Rady JCC in order to ensure the ongoing wellbeing of our members, staff, and volunteers. Last week’s incident was a reminder why we’ve gone to such lengths putting these measures in place.

Here at Rady, safety is paramount. When you come to the Rady, your focus should be on your workout, your swim, your class. You shouldn’t have to worry about anything else. I can say again today that you are protected while at the facility you’ve come to love and trust.

We continue to assess our current safety measures to be sure they are the best they can be. With that in mind, beginning this week we have updated the pre-screening questions you will be asked in order to gain entry into Rady. These questions, along with a temperature check, will be asked to every Rady member, staff person, and volunteer.

What are these questions?

  1. Have you traveled outside of the province in the last 14 days?We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who has travelled outside of Manitoba in the last 14 days. Exceptions to this may be made for people who have travelled directly to and from their cabins just over the Manitoba border in Ontario.
  2. Have you exhibited any COVID-related symptoms in the last 14 days (cough, fever, chills, sore throat, runny nose)? We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone showing any of these symptoms.
  3. Have you been in contact with anyone who has exhibited any COVID-related symptoms in the last 14 days (cough, fever, chills, sore throat, runny nose)? We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who has been in prolonged close contact of 15 minutes or more with anyone showing any of these symptoms.
  4. Have you been in contact with anyone you are aware of who is currently awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test?We reserve the right to refuse entry to anyone who has been in prolonged close contact of 15 minutes or more with anyone currently awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test.

Starting next week, you will notice another change when you arrive for your workout. We will be moving the screening desk to the centre of the main entrance area. Not only will you be pre-screened there when you arrive, you will also check out at this desk now when you leave Rady.

You may have to wait a minute or two upon arrival or exit if there are other members coming or going at the same time in front of you. I kindly ask for your patience if this is the case. Please remember why you are being asked to do this. It is to ensure the ongoing safety and wellbeing of everyone at Rady.

Thank you again for putting your trust in us.

Here’s to a great start to the Fall.

Warm regards,

Rob Berkowits
Executive Director
Rady JCC

On a different note, on behalf of the Rady JCC Board of Directors, we join the entire community in mourning the passing of Barry McArton.

Barry was a tireless leader, visionary, and long-standing volunteer both within our Jewish community and beyond. His leadership was never more prevalent than when he acted as the Combined Jewish Appeal Campaign Chair in 2019/2020, raising funds the Rady JCC as well as all other beneficiary organizations depend on to survive.

Barry was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. The entire Rady JCC extends our heartfelt condolences to his wife Carol, his children, grandchildren and extended family.

May his memory be a blessing.
