Folklorama – Shalom Square

The Israel Pavilion – Shalom Square is excited to be part of the Folklorama lineup from August 4-10, 2024.

We invite you to volunteer with us at the largest and longest running multicultural festival of its kind in the world!

There are a variety of fun and engaging volunteer opportunities!

Below is a brief description of the various volunteer positions.

  • Admissions: Sitting at a table selling tickets and take pre-paid tickets at the entrance door
  • Bar: Standing at the bar, taking drink tickets and giving drinks to visitors (must be 18 years or older)
  • Clean-up: Clean tables between and after shows (wipe tables, collect garbage, straighten chairs, etc.)
  • Cultural: An Israeli cultural display will be set up in the Berney Theatre. Volunteers will answer cultural questions about Israel (ie: food, arts, sports, geography and technology) to visitors
  • Food Line: Standing in the food line, filling plates of food and handing to visitors (no money or ticket collecting is involved)
  • Group Tours: Meet Groups in the Gym; usher them to their seats and serve them food and drink
  • Guest Services: Standing at different locations throughout the Pavilion assisting in crowd control
  • Pavilion Host: Take VIP groups on walking tour of the Cultural Display and bring to their designated seats.
  • Snack Sales: Walk around with a box small Israeli snacks selling to visitors (volunteers under the age of 18 are welcome to this position)
  • Souvenir Sales: Sitting at a table selling Israeli souvenirs
  • VIP Hospitality: Meet VIPs in the Gym; usher them to their seats and serve them food and drink

Jessica Cogan:  Adult Ambassador

Shalom! My name is Jessica Cogan, and I am honoured to serve as the Israeli Pavilion-Shalom Square adult ambassador at this year’s Folklorama. As a Bene Israel Jewish person whose family comes from one of the Jewish communities of India, I bring a unique voice and perspective to this year’s pavilion. I am a very active volunteer in our Jewish community having served as a Board member of the Jewish Federation of Winnipeg, and as the Chair of the Israel and Overseas portfolio on their Executive committee. I have always had a deep love for my culture and traditions and a very strong passion for Israel, which I cannot wait to share with you, and help make your Folklorama experience unforgettable. I am so excited to be a part of the hardworking and talented team bringing Shalom Square to you this year! See you there!

 

 

 


Tomer Hatzir: Adult Ambassador

Shalom, my name is Tomer Hatzir and I so excited to be one of the Adult Ambassadors for the Israel Pavilion – Shalom Square at this year’s Folklorama. I was born In Israel and moved to Winnipeg last year to pursue my master’s degree in food science at the University of Manitoba. As a Jewish Zionist student, I am proud and honoured to be the president of the University of Manitoba’s Students Supporting Israel Association. I am honoured to be an ambassador and I can’t wait to showcase the beauty and culture of my country to the many people who will come to visit Shalom Square at this years Folklorama.

 

 

 

 


Stafford Mellon: Youth Ambassador

Shalom, my name is Stafford Mellon and I am thrilled to have been selected as a 2024 Youth Ambassador for the Israel Pavilion – Shalom Square. I am currently a Grade 11 student at Gray Academy and looking forward to entering Grade 12 in September. I have been involved with Folklorama my entire life and I am currently a board member on the Folk Arts Youth Council. I am an active part of the community and have volunteered at many community events over the years. I am excited to represent Israel and share my passion for the country and its unique culture. I can’t wait to celebrate our amazing pavilion, entertainment, and delicious food at Folklorama 54!

 

 

 

 

 


Maxim Moscalenkov: Youth Ambassador

My name is Maxim Moscalenkov and I am 14 years old. I am honoured to be one of the Youth Ambassadors at the Israel Pavilion – Shalom Square. Growing up, I have always been an extrovert. As a child I loved talking and meeting new friends everywhere I went. Volunteering has been a big part of my life in recent years. From helping my gym, to volunteering for my school’s debate tournaments, I have always loved helping others out and being there for them. Exploring this new and exciting path of my life, I strongly hope and believe that I can help in the community as much as I can.
