The Rady JCC is excited to announce the ‘Put a Yid on it!’ Festival of New Yiddish Culture kicks off next month.
The five-day festival, featuring some of the best Yiddish films, music, and specialty workshops, takes place from February 7 – 11 at the Rady JCC, located at 123 Doncaster Street. A special feature concert at the West End Cultural Centre, located at 586 Ellice Avenue, as well as a book launch at the Handsome Daughter, located at 61 Sherbrook Street, will also be part of the lineup.
The goal of the festival is to build a meaningful bridge between the world of European Jews from back in the day with the modern upsurge and interest in the language as expressed in film and music; something that has been called the Yiddish Renaissance.
And the best part is that you do not need to speak a word of Yiddish to enjoy every bit of this festival.
‘Put a Yid on It!’ Festival of New Yiddish Culture is fully funded through generous grants from The Asper Foundation and the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba.
