Do you ever get a song stuck in your head?

August 14, 2020

Dear Rady JCC Friends,

Sometimes, sounding like a broken record is not always a bad thing.

Throughout our three-month closure and since our reopening, we communicate time and time again that everything we do here at the Rady is done so with the safety and wellbeing of our members, staff, and volunteers top-of-mind.

Every decision to add member amenities is heavily scrutinized under this lens to ensure it was the proper decision made at the proper time. And with every amenity we safely added, a few more of you made the choice to return to the Rady.

When we reopened on June 15, our available amenities were limited because we needed to approach everything cautiously to ensure your wellbeing was paramount. We did not want to jeopardize your safety in any way. Week after week, we would assess and analyze our efforts and engage with our members and staff to see how things were progressing. We listened and we acted, based on suggestions and observations.

As we moved into July, we added additional amenities when safe and manageable to do so. In our aquatics facility, we increased available lap swimming lanes and booking times. In our gyms, recreation activities, including basketball, pickleball, and badminton, were able to be safely offered.

At the onset of August, we reopened our men’s and women’s locker rooms and showers with physical distancing measures in effect. While we still cannot offer towel service yet, members are extremely happy to have access to locker room facilities once again.

So, what’s next?

Beginning after Labour Day on Tuesday, September 8, we will be increasing our hours of operation. This will give members who like to start their days with early workouts more time to do so.

Our new hours will be:

  • Mondays to Thursdays, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Fridays, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays to Sundays, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

In our group fitness studio, our group weekly group class offerings will increase from 25 to 32 options.

I am thrilled to confirm that we will once again be offering swimming lessons immediately after Labour Day. Rady member registration opens next week Tuesday, August 18, while non-member registration opens Thursday, August 20. Registration must be completed online and will open next Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. Full details, schedules, and registration can be found by clicking here.

Finally, for everyone missing their aquatics group classes, Aquafit is back after Labour Day!

  • Mondays, 8:45 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.
  • Wednesdays, 8:45 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.
  • Fridays, 8:45 a.m. to 9:40 a.m.

In order to maintain proper physical distancing, all Aquafit classes will be limited to 15 people. Registration must be completed using our online system and opens three days in advance of the start of individual classes.

Every amenity we add is done so with the safety and wellbeing of our members, staff, and volunteers top of mind.

Cue the broken record.

But between you and me, I am starting to like this song we’re playing.

Warm regards,

Rob Berkowits

One more thing!

Next week, we will be announcing some new premium fitness class options. Stay tuned for that!
