Dear Rady JCC Friends,
As we move into the official days of Summer, I am feeling very encouraged with what we are seeing here at the Rady. There is a buzz in the air; one of excitement and rejuvenation.
Since we reopened our doors on June 15, our fitness floor capacity has seen ebbs and flows. As you know, our capacity is 70 people due to mandated provincial physical distancing rules. Over the past week and a half, we are seeing anywhere from 20% to 50% capacity throughout each day.
Members who have made the decision to return have been extremely pleased with the cleanliness of our facility as well as machine availability. Our live fitness centre capacity counter, updated every two hours on our website allowing members to know our capacity before they make the drive over here, has been a hit with them as well.
Late last week, we conducted a short survey with members who returned to the Rady. We did this to help us as we continue to adjust our temporary measures in place while ensuring we deliver first-class fitness experiences. I am happy to report that the overall average grade we received on our reopening by these members was an A. We are extremely proud and humbled by this.
Looking a little deeper into our survey results, one of the recurring comments was the suggestion that more frequent cleaning should be taking place on the fitness floor. While we already have our fitness staff wiping down machines and cleaning commonly touched surfaces regularly as well as have an intensive sanitization schedule in place for the Asper Campus cleaning staff, we could still be doing more.
To address this, I am happy to say we are now in the process of hiring three summer students as part of our Rady Wellness Crew. We will have one crew member on duty during all regular hours of operation. Their duties will be to continually clean and sanitize our machines and frequently touched surfaces as well as enforce physical distancing restrictions. They will be easily identifiable by their Wellness Crew t-shirts.
Going forward, we will continue to engage with our members and give them opportunities to share their experiences and suggestions with us. When our members are willing to talk, we will listen.
Beginning on Monday, June 29, we will begin offering specific sports and recreation activities. Members will be able to pre-book specific times for pickleball, badminton, and basketball. No drop-ins will be allowed, and physical distancing measures will be in effect. Members must also bring their own equipment as nothing will be provided by the Rady. Bookings for sports and recreation can be made starting 72 hours in advance of booking times on our pre-booking platform.
We continue to assess all facets of the Rady as we push forward in order to ensure every decision we make is the right decision and done so with the safety and well-being of our members, staff, and volunteers top-of-mind.
For those members who have come back already, it’s great to see you again. For those not quite ready yet, we will be here for you when you are.
Here’s to a great summer ahead.
Warm regards,
Rob Berkowits
