New Day Care Has A Name

October 13, 2015

The Rady Jewish Community Centre announced the name of their second child care centre currently under construction on Grosvenor Avenue.

When it opens in 2016, the centre will be known as the David and Ruth Asper Early Learning Centre.

“There have been many who helped the Rady JCC in our goal to open a second child care centre to meet the incredible need in our community.   But David and Ruth Asper deserve particular mention here,” Rady JCC President, Elliott Garfinkel, said during the event. “Today, I am excited to announce David and Ruth Asper will be putting their support behind the project and the new child centre will be named the David and Ruth Asper Early Learning Centre.”

The Rady JCC currently operates its Kaufman Child Care Centre with over 100 children at its current location, but a significant wait list presents challenges and the organization has made it a priority to help provide more space for families.

“David and Ruth Asper’s contributions to our community are immeasurable,” Rady JCC Executive Director, Gayle Waxman, said. “They’ve chosen to support a project that will impact hundreds of children over the years as well as the future of our community, which speaks to their values as well as the values of the Rady JCC.  We’re delighted David and Ruth are making this early learning centre a priority.”

Open to the whole community, the David and Ruth Asper Early Learning Centre will be located at 1710 Grosvenor.  It will provide full-time, quality child care for 48 preschool children, ages 2-5.  The project, which is expected to cost $1.4 million to complete, is funded in part through a grant from Manitoba Early Learning and Child Care. A fundraising campaign is underway to raise the remaining funds.   Families interested in putting their child on the wait list, can register online at the Manitoba On-Line Child Care Registry at www.manitoba.ca/onlinechildcareregistry

Currently celebrating its 18th year at its current location inside the Asper Jewish Community Campus, the Rady JCC is a registered charity open to all.  The Rady JCC provides scholarships, camperships and community service programs for those in the community who need them most regardless of financial situation, ability, age or cultural background.  Visit radyjcc.com or call 204-477-7510 for more information.
