Chris Berman The Rady JCC is pleased to announce that ESPN sportscaster Chris Berman will be our special guest speaker at the 36th Annual ‘Y’ Sports Dinner, Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Winnipeg Convention Centre. During the event, Milt Stegall will be honored for this outstanding accomplishments in the CFL along with his contributions to the City of Winnipeg over his long career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The event is in support of the Rady JCC and will be hosted by CTV/TSN sportscaster Brian Williams. Sponsorship packages, including Dinner tickets, are on sale. Individual tickets for the 36th Annual ‘Y’ Sports Dinner are $180, $250, $360, and $500. Chris Berman has become one of America’s most respected, popular, and in many ways, most beloved sportscasters of his era. With his trademark combination of genuine enthusiasm, knowledge and wit, he has come to embody ESPN in its dedication to entertaining and informing sports fans across the country. He is best known for his signature delivery of highlights of every sport, most notably on NFL Sundays. Six times the versatile Berman has been selected the National Sportscaster of the Year (1989, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1996 and 2001) by the members of the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. Berman and his various shows have won nine Emmy Awards and 12 CableACEs. Brian Williams has been a decorated sports broadcaster for more than 30 years, and his respected broadcast style has endeared him to millions of Canadians from coast-to-coast. He has won praise from critics and numerous accolades, including six Gemini Awards and two Foster Hewitt Awards. Born in Winnipeg, Williams began calling university basketball play-by-play in 1967. He started his professional career in radio with Toronto’s CHUM. After a year at CFRB Radio in Toronto, Williams joined CBLT and remained with CBC until his move to CTV/TSN in June, 2006. The ‘Y’ Sports Dinner began 36 years ago as a fundraiser for the YMHA, the predecessor to the Rady JCC. The Dinner is the Rady JCC’s biggest fundraiser every year, and helps fund scholarships and programs for members of our diverse community that wouldn’t otherwise have access to our services. Speakers in recent years include Pete Rose, Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, Phil Esposito, and Scotty Bowman. The Rady JCC is a not-for-profit community agency providing a broad range of programs and services for all age groups to meet the diverse needs of its members, the Jewish community, and the community-at-large. Programs include cultural, social, educational, health, fitness, and recreational activities for all age groups, from infant to older adult, including one of the best child care programs in Winnipeg. |
