Trio of Toronto Maple Leaf Legends Set to Drop the Mitts at the 2024 Rady JCC Ken Kronson Sports Dinner

WINNIPEG, MB – Great moments are born from great opportunity.

The Rady JCC is thrilled to announce NHL legends and former Toronto Maple Leaf teammates Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour, and Grant Fuhr as its three keynote speakers for the 2024 Rady JCC Ken Kronson Sports Dinner. The 50th annual gala drops the puck at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg on Tuesday, May 28, 2024.

“We are reuniting three of the all-time Maple Leaf greats to tell some stories about their time playing together and against each other in the show,” said Al Greenberg, Rady JCC Sports Dinner Chair. “These guys are all buddies, they have trophy cases full of hardware, and will have plenty of fun stories to share during their years in Toronto and with other NHL clubs.”

Wendel Clark was one of the most beloved players to ever wear the Toronto Maple Leafs jersey. The former team captain, his rambunctious playing style, and exceptional talent on the ice endeared him to fans. He began his career in 1985 where was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and was second in voting for the Calder Trophy. Overall, in his career, Clark recorded 330 goals, 234 assists, 564 points, and 1,690 penalty minutes. Clark made hockey fun again in Toronto.

If there is a player who inspires near-hysteria among the Leafs Nation, it is Doug Gilmour. Selected by St. Louis in the seventh round, he began his rookie season in 1983. Nicknamed ‘Killer’ for his intensity, Gilmour played like a man much larger. After five seasons, the Blues traded Gilmour to Calgary, where he won a Stanley Cup. Three seasons later he was traded to Toronto in the biggest deal in league history. In his first full season, he earned 127 points, a Maple Leaf franchise record. Gilmour was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2011.

An Edmonton Oiler first round draft pick, Grant Fuhr led his team to five Stanley Cup championships. In 1987, he won the Vezina trophy. After he was traded to the Leafs in 1991 for a two-season stint, he joined Dominik Hasek in Buffalo in 1993 and together they won the William Jennings trophy. In 1995, just when he appeared ‘over the hill’, Fuhr signed with the St. Louis Blues, where he played an astonishing 79 games, 76 of them consecutively. Both still stand as single-season records.

Longtime community volunteers and philanthropists Lana and Gregg Maidment will be honoured at the dinner for their decades of commitment and dedication to both the Jewish and greater community.

“Lana and Gregg have built an incredible legacy that stretches far beyond our Winnipeg community,” continued Greenberg. “Their direct impact on all charitable organizations they have been involved with is immeasurable. They’ve touched the lives of tens of thousands of people because of their selflessness.”

Michael Silver and Jason Bonneteau of WPG The Wealth Planning Group as well as Paul Winestock and Danny Childerhouse of Winestock Childerhouse Wealth of RBC Dominion Securities & RBC Private Banking will be Co-Title Sponsors for the not-to-be-missed event of the year.

“Michael and Jason are committed and believe very strongly in our cause,” said Rob Berkowits, Rady JCC Executive Director. “And Paul and Danny continue to be incredible corporate leaders who care deeply in our mission.”

Every single dollar raised at the Sports Dinner supports the Rady JCC’s various initiatives, a not-for-profit community agency providing recreational, cultural, and fitness programs for all age groups to meet the diverse needs of the community-at-large.

“We are non-religious and non-denominational and are open to all,” said Berkowits. “Through our programs and camps, we reach thousands of children a year, helping them to stay active and develop leadership skills. We provide programming for children with disabilities, as well as programming that promote the wellbeing of people living with chronic illnesses or recovering from cancer.”

The evening includes a multi-course gala dinner, silent, live, and rainbow auctions. Individual tickets, corporate tables, and sponsorships will be available in late February.

Lana and Gregg Maidment to be Honoured at 50th Annual Rady JCC Ken Kronson Sports Dinner

WINNIPEG, MB – Family is everything.

The Rady JCC is thrilled to announce longtime community volunteers and philanthropists Lana and Gregg Maidment as its 2024 Honourees for the 50th Annual Rady JCC Ken Kronson Sports Dinner, taking place Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at the RBC Convention Centre.

Lana and Gregg will be profiled and recognized alongside this year’s keynote speaker, who will be announced in the coming weeks. An anticipated crowd of over 1,400 business and community leaders are expected to attend the flagship fundraiser.

“This is a milestone year for us,” said Al Greenberg, Sports Dinner Committee Chair. “Lana and Gregg are the perfect fit for this celebration and we are so happy they are humbly allowing us to do them this honour.”

Lana is the President and CEO of Komana Financial Inc. She has been the heart of this family-created and run business for over 30 years. This business was started by her father, Mike Kogan, and taken over by her over five years ago. She has been integral to the financial planning of so many, ensuring their legacies are passed on to their families throughout the generations.

Lana’s family have been a driving force at the Rady JCC. Lana herself taught fitness here over 35 years ago while her parents were members going back to the Hargrave location ever since they immigrated to Canada over 48 years ago. The Kogan family was a consistent presence at both locations. Adel and Mike had ‘their table’ at Shmoozer’s for as long as it existed. The Rady was an integral part of the Kogan family life in both health and business.

“Lana’s roots run deep at the Rady,” continued Greenberg. “Her ongoing commitment to this place that is so special to so many people is truly inspiring.”

Gregg is the Sr. VP of Business Development with ADESA/OPENLANE for more than 36 years. He is a leader in both business and in corporate citizenship. Gregg has been involved in raising money for over 50 charities and raising millions of dollars for their worthy causes.

Together, Lana and Gregg have built an incredible legacy for their family, structured on the principles of love, hard work, and philanthropy. They, together with their six children and their partners, and their grandchildren, have built a Manitoba footprint that will last forever. Madison, Max, Olivia, Kennedy, Cassidy, Chris, Leah, William, Taylor, Amira, and Isabella have an amazing example of supporting local and giving back to their community to be a part of their lifetime.

Some of the charities that Lana and Gregg have worked with include the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Ducks Unlimited, Seven Oaks Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, Variety Club Charities, Bruce Oake Foundation, Sons and Daughters of Italy, Pam Am Clinic Foundation, just to name a few. Regardless of how busy their professional lives are, Lana and Gregg will never say no to supporting a Manitoba or international cause that can help others.

Lana has been heavily involved in the Rady JCC Sports Dinner for years as a Committee Member, leading the way to secure countless strategic sponsorships, prizes, and donations. Gregg’s incredible work over the years professionally running our live auction at the dinner has allowed us to raise millions of dollars. Their direct impact on the Rady is immeasurable. The Rady has been able to touch the lives of thousands of people because of their selflessness.

“If you’ve ever been to our dinner, then you know Gregg’s voice and know firsthand what he does for us,” said Greenberg. “The way he and his team have elevated our live auction over the years has been life changing for so many.”

The Rady JCC is close to the hearts of the Kogan/Narvey/Maidment family. Their family, as well as the entire community, were deeply saddened when the pillars of their family passed away; Mike in 2019 and Adel recently at the end of 2023.

Adel and Mike would be so proud of Lana for being honoured by the Rady, their home away from home that gave them an outlet as a new immigrant family and later became the heart of their lifestyle as senior adults in the Jewish community.

The entire Maidment family wishes their parents were here to witness this honour; they would have been the first people to raise a glass, raise a paddle and be so proud of what their daughter Lana and son-in-law Gregg have accomplished in life and community.

“These dinners are always magical,” concluded Greenberg. “And through sharing Lana and Gregg’s story and honouring their entire family this year, we are in for something even bigger than we’ve ever seen before.”

Tickets and sponsorships for the 50th Annual Rady JCC Ken Kronson Sports Dinner will be available in mid-February. If you wish to come out and help celebrate Lana and Gregg, be sure to secure your seats early as this event is guaranteed to sell out.
