Yom Ha’atzmaut

Rady JCC hosts Israeli’s Independence Day celebration – Yom Ha’atzmaut, complete with entertainment, children and family fun, programming for tweens and teens, Israeli Food Café featuring Israeli food favourites and tasty desserts, fireworks and much more!

It celebrates the anniversary of the creation of Israel, on May 14, 1948 (or, according to the Jewish calendar, the 5th of Iyar in 5708). On that day, David Ben Gurion, who became Israel’s first Prime Minister, declared the establishment of the State of Israel and the end of the British Mandate. From then on, the 5th of Iyar became a national holiday, celebrated both in Israel and by Jews and Zionists around the world. People celebrating the holiday world-wide wear blue and white (Israel’s national colours) and wave Israeli flags.
